Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of RealStudy ("Service", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use RealStudy. If you are under 18, you confirm that your parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@realstudy.app if you suspect unauthorised access. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are used fraudulently.
3. Free Trial
New accounts receive a 3-day free trial. No credit card is required to start the trial. At the end of the trial period your access to premium features will be paused. You may subscribe at any time to restore full access. We do not automatically charge you at the end of the trial.
4. Subscription and Payment
After your free trial you may subscribe for CHF 6.90 per month (or the equivalent in your local currency as displayed at checkout). Subscription fees are charged in advance for each billing period. Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. By subscribing you authorise Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel.
We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems; (c) reverse-engineer, scrape, or reproduce any part of the Service; (d) share your account with others; or (e) upload content that infringes third-party rights. See our Acceptable Use Policy for full details.
6. Your Content
You retain ownership of any content you upload (e.g. assignment titles, PDF files). By uploading content you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to process and store it solely to provide the Service. We do not sell your content to third parties.
7. Intellectual Property
RealStudy's software, design, and branding are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership to you.
8. Changes to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. Where reasonably practicable we will give advance notice of material changes. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
9. Termination
You may close your account at any time via Settings or by emailing hello@realstudy.app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. Academic scheduling is a tool to assist you — final responsibility for meeting deadlines rests with you.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the Service is limited to the greater of (a) CHF 100 or (b) the fees you paid in the three months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RealStudy and its team from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland. Any disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zürich, Switzerland, unless mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.

Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how RealStudy collects, uses, and protects your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).
1. Data We Collect
- Account data: name, email address, hashed password, account creation date.
- Study data: assignments, subjects, due dates, estimated hours, study preferences (daily hours, start time), PDF files you upload.
- Usage data: page interactions recorded anonymously via Plausible Analytics (no cookies, no cross-site tracking).
- Payment data: billing information is collected and stored directly by Stripe. We receive only a customer ID and subscription status — never raw card numbers.
2. Legal Bases for Processing
- Contract performance: to provide the Service you have signed up for (account, study plan, planner).
- Legitimate interests: service stability, security monitoring, product improvement.
- Legal obligation: compliance with applicable law including tax and financial regulations.
- Consent: optional analytics (you can opt out via browser settings or a Do Not Track header).
3. How We Use Your Data
- Provide and improve the Service (scheduling algorithm, PDF processing).
- Send transactional emails (account verification, payment receipts) — no marketing without separate consent.
- Detect and prevent abuse or fraud.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Data Retention
- Account and study data: retained while your account is active and for 30 days after deletion.
- Payment records: retained for 10 years as required by Swiss accounting law.
- Server logs: retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.
5. Data Sharing and Processors
We do not sell your data. We share data only with the following processors under data processing agreements:
- Stripe, Inc. (payment processing) — stripe.com/privacy
- Plausible Analytics (anonymous usage stats, EU-hosted) — plausible.io/privacy
- Hosting provider (infrastructure) — servers located in the EU/EEA or Switzerland.
6. International Transfers
Where personal data is transferred outside Switzerland or the EEA (e.g. to Stripe's US infrastructure), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and recognised by the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
7. Your Rights
Under GDPR and FADP you have the right to: access your data, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. To exercise these rights, email privacy@realstudy.app. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority or the Swiss FDPIC.
8. Security
Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. Data in transit is encrypted via TLS. We conduct periodic security reviews and notify affected users without undue delay in the event of a breach affecting their rights.
9. Children
RealStudy is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account without parental consent, contact us and we will delete the data promptly.

Subscription & Billing Policy
Free Trial
All new accounts receive a 3-day free trial. No credit card is required to start. At the end of the trial your premium access is paused — you are not charged automatically. You can subscribe at any time from within the app to restore access.
Subscription Price
The subscription price is CHF 6.90 per month (or the local-currency equivalent shown at checkout). All prices are inclusive of applicable VAT where required by law. VAT amount is itemised on your receipt.
Billing Cycle
Your subscription is billed monthly from the date you subscribe. Stripe charges your payment method automatically at the start of each billing period. You will receive a receipt by email after each successful charge.
Trial Carry-Over
If you subscribe while your free trial is still active, the remaining trial days are credited to your Stripe subscription — you will not be charged until those days have elapsed.
Failed Payments
If a payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry for up to 14 days. You will receive email notifications during this period. If payment is not resolved within 14 days, your subscription will be cancelled and your access will revert to the free (paused) state. Your data is retained and you can resubscribe at any time.
Price Changes
We will give at least 30 days' notice of any price increase to active subscribers via email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.
VAT and Taxes
Depending on your country of residence, VAT or other local taxes may be added to the subscription price at checkout. The final amount including applicable taxes is displayed before you confirm payment.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Cancelling During the Free Trial
Because no credit card is required and no charge is made during the trial, there is nothing to cancel or refund at trial end. Your premium access simply pauses when the trial expires.
Cancelling a Paid Subscription
You can cancel your subscription at any time via Settings → Manage Subscription in the app, which opens your Stripe billing portal. You may also cancel by emailing hello@realstudy.app.
After cancellation you retain full access until the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged for the next period. We do not offer prorated refunds for unused days in the current period.
Account Deletion vs. Cancellation
Cancelling your subscription keeps your account and data intact. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, go to Settings → Delete Account or email hello@realstudy.app. Deleting your account also cancels any active subscription.
Refunds
We do not offer refunds as a general policy. Exceptions are made in the following circumstances:
- Duplicate charge: you were billed more than once for the same period.
- Technical failure: a verified fault on our side prevented you from accessing the Service for a substantial portion of a paid period.
- Missed cancellation: you were charged after cancelling due to a processing error on our side.
Refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the charge in question by emailing hello@realstudy.app with your account email and a description of the issue. We review requests within 5 business days and issue approved refunds via the original payment method within 5–10 business days.
Statutory consumer rights under applicable law are not affected by this policy.

Acceptable Use Policy
RealStudy is a personal study-planning tool. This policy sets out what constitutes acceptable and unacceptable use of the Service.
One Account Per Person
Each account is for the sole use of one individual. Sharing account credentials with others, selling access, or creating accounts on behalf of third parties without our authorisation is not permitted.
Reasonable Usage
The Service is designed for individual student use. Automated bulk data entry, scripted API calls, or usage patterns that place unreasonable load on our infrastructure are not permitted.
Prohibited Activities
You must not use the Service to:
- Upload, store, or transmit content that is illegal, harmful, defamatory, or infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
- Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems, or circumvent any authentication or security measures.
- Introduce viruses, malware, or any other harmful code.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
Account Security
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Do not use a weak or reused password. Enable any two-factor authentication we may offer. Report suspected compromise immediately to hello@realstudy.app.
Responsible Disclosure
If you discover a security vulnerability in RealStudy, please report it responsibly to security@realstudy.app before public disclosure. We will acknowledge your report within 72 hours and work with you on an appropriate disclosure timeline.
Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in (in order of severity): a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent termination of your account. We may also report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities. We aim to apply proportionate responses — we will contact you before taking action except in cases of serious or repeated violations.

Cookie Notice
This notice explains what cookies and similar technologies RealStudy uses, why, and how you can control them.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. We also use browser localStorage for storing your session token and user preferences within the app.
Cookies We Use
Strictly Necessary
These are required for the Service to function. They cannot be disabled.
- Authentication token — stored in
localStorage(key:rs_token). Keeps you signed in. Duration: 30 days or until you sign out. - Form preferences — stored in
localStorage(key:rs_defaults). Remembers your last-used task type and priority. Duration: until you clear site data.
Functional
These improve your experience but are not strictly required.
- No additional functional cookies are set beyond those listed above.
Analytics — Plausible
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first analytics tool. Plausible does not use cookies, does not track users across sites, does not collect personal data, and is fully GDPR compliant without requiring a consent banner. Data is aggregated and anonymous.
Payment — Stripe
When you visit the Stripe checkout page, Stripe sets its own cookies for fraud prevention and session management. These are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. These cookies are only present during and after a checkout session.
EU/EEA/Switzerland Consent
Because Plausible does not use cookies or collect personal data, and our own localStorage items are strictly necessary for the Service to function, we do not display a cookie consent banner. If we introduce analytics cookies in the future that require consent, we will update this notice and implement appropriate consent mechanisms.
How to Control Cookies
- Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Note that disabling
localStoragewill prevent you from staying signed in. - Plausible opt-out: because Plausible uses no cookies, standard cookie opt-outs do not apply. You can block the Plausible script using a content blocker.
- Stripe: Stripe cookies are set when you visit the checkout page; you can delete them via your browser after completing or cancelling a payment.
